Overview

The Polka Dot Hijab reimagines a timeless motif through a modern, wearable lens. Working within VELA’s design team, the focus was on refining the details such as scale, spacing, contrast, and logo placement to create a print that feels both classic and current.

The result is a versatile piece that transitions seamlessly between minimal and statement styling. The design resonated strongly with customers and current trends and ultimately sold out once dropped.

Problem

Classic prints like polka dots are widely recognized, but often lack intentionality in execution. Without careful consideration, they can feel either outdated or overly generic. The challenge was to elevate a familiar motif through thoughtful design decisions, ensuring it feels refined, relevant, and aligned with the brand’s aesthetic.

Solution

Through collaborative iteration, the design was refined across key elements; adjusting dot scale and spacing for balance, introducing crisp contrast for visual clarity, and integrating subtle branding through logo placement. These decisions transform a familiar pattern into a considered, elevated staple that feels effortless, versatile, and distinctly VELA.
