Overview

The Beaded Celestial Hijab is an occasion piece designed for VELA's Ramadan 2026 Collection, Between Dusk & Dawn. This hijab brings subtle luminosity to a classic black silhouette. Developed in collaboration with Marwa Aatik and the VELA design team, the concept centers around delicate beading that catches the light against an opaque modal base.

My role focused on refining the placement of each element and translating the team’s vision into a balanced, wearable composition. The design resonated strongly with customers, ultimately selling out during the Ramadan 2026 season in both black and chartreuse colorways.

Problem

Designing with embellishment requires restraint. Without intention, beading can feel heavy, scattered, or overly decorative, disrupting both wearability and flow.

The challenge was to execute a placement that felt elevated and cohesive, while maintaining the softness and movement of the fabric.

Solution

Working from Marwa’s direction to create a cascading effect, the bead placement was carefully considered to flow naturally along the drape of the scarf. Density, spacing, and distribution were refined to ensure the embellishment felt intentional rather than applied.

The result is a piece that catches light with subtlety: a refined, luminous finish that enhances the silhouette without overpowering it.
