Overview
The VELA Lira Charm is a versatile accessory developed as part of the Baladi Capsule, inspired by traditional Turkish gold adornment. Based on Marwa’s vision to reinterpret our classic hoop charm in a more ornate, heritage-driven style, the design introduces a double-coin motif with engraved detailing and fringe accents.
A subtle VELA icon is integrated into the front, grounding the piece in brand identity. Released in both gold and silver, the charm is designed for versatility: worn on a hijab hoop, as an earring, or styled as a bag charm, keychain, or phone accessory.
Problem
Translating traditional jewelry into a modern, multi-functional accessory requires balance. Pieces can easily feel either overly costume-like or stripped of the richness that defines their cultural origins.
The challenge was to retain the ornamental quality and historical references of Turkish coin jewelry, while refining the form to feel wearable, versatile, and aligned with VELA’s contemporary aesthetic.
Solution
Working from Marwa’s direction, I executed the design and refined it through proportion, detailing, and composition. The double-coin structure creates movement, while engraved textures and fringe elements add depth without overwhelming the form.
By integrating the VELA icon and simplifying the overall silhouette, the piece maintains its cultural inspiration while functioning as a modern accessory. The result is a charm that feels expressive, rooted in tradition, but designed for everyday styling.
